HEE-HAW!
Her eyes are brown like chestnuts.
Her hair is dark like the bark of trees,
And rough as a brush to touch.
Her lips go slip-slop-slap!
Coconut Comes to School was also published in Italy and South Korea.
I first thought of this story many years ago, when a teacher told me about a donkey who used to visit their school. What if somebody in the school didn’t want the donkey to come, I thought, like the headmaster? I wondered how he might try to chase her away, and how things might go wrong, and then how they might go right again.
This is a funny and touching tale, beautifully illustrated by Ivan Bates.
